The General Secretary of Vietnam's communist party, Nong
Duc Manh, places incense on a grave at the military cemetery in Dien Bien
Phu. Vietnam remembered the May 7, 1954
anniversary when Viet Minh forces overran the French garrison at Dien Bien
Phu after a 56-day seige, forcing the French government to abandon its
colonial control of Indochina.
